Mission

Mission
The Associated Students of Stanford University was created in 1891 and is the only organization at Stanford of which every student is a member. The ASSU provides funding to over five hundred volunteer student organizations (VSO). These organizations in turn provide the majority of cultural, political, recreational and religious programming for the entire campus. The financial independence that the ASSU affords student organizations is one of the founding principles of the organization.

The ASSU also works to represent the interests, needs and perspectives of Stanford students at every level of decision making within the university. The ASSU advocates on behalf of Stanford students on issues such as cost of living, diversity, student life and student activities space.

Each year the ASSU pursues innovative projects and creates new services that will improve the quality of student life offered at Stanford.

The Cardinal Policy Group provides students with an opportunity to develop skills relevant to policy analysis and work with policymakers and organizations to use policy as a lever for social change.

The Stanford Science Policy Group (SSPG) aims to create a central hub to engage and educate scientists/non-scientists in policy, provide students with tools for science policy professional development, expose students to thoughtful speakers that work in various sectors of policy development (legislative, legal, local etc.).

In 2017, SCR was reconstituted from nothing with the following mission: to counteract the left’s monopolization of Stanford’s campus discourse by working to bring conservative ideas into the mainstream of Stanford’s public square, a mission we continue to adhere to today.

SWIP is a non-partisan organization dedicated to developing a community of women interested in any sort of political, policy, or legal field. We do this through educational teach-ins, professional development, and networking events. Relatedly, we have seven different committees: education, mentorship, community development, media and marketing, programming, fellowships, and communications, which are comprised of our core membership. They plan and execute all of our programming. Anyone who is interested in learning about and supporting women in politics and creating a community for this on campus is welcome to join.
