The American Constitution Society for Law and Policy is a national organization of law students, law professors, judges, practicing lawyers and others. We want to counter the dominant vision of American law, a narrow conservative vision that lacks appropriate regard for the ways in which the law affects people's lives. We seek to restore the fundamental principles of respect for human dignity, protection of individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, and access to justice to their rightful—and traditionally central—place in American law. We want to strengthen the intellectual underpinnings of—and the public case for—a vision of the law in which these values are paramount—on such issues as: privacy; freedom of speech; federalism; anti-discrimination and affirmative action; gay rights; a woman's right to choose; labor and consumer rights; protection of health, safety, and the environment; the death penalty; and the criminal justice system.

The SLS Law and Political Economy (LPE) group is part of the larger LPE movement, which is a network of scholars, practitioners, and students advancing a legal paradigm rooted in the reality that politics and economics cannot be separated–and that the law is vital in shaping both. LPE centers questions of political economy to confront present-day crises such as regional and racial inequality; ecological devastation; and unaccountable corporate power. The LPE community shares a commitment to mass democracy and an interest in alternatives to the neoliberal economic logic that underlies so many areas of law and policymaking. In that spirit, LPE supports academic work that traces the legal theories that have contributed to our moment, as well as scholarship that proposes new ways to democratize our economy and create a more just, equal, and sustainable future. As Muslims at Stanford Law School, we find inspiration through the Islamic tradition and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in advocating for the oppressed and serving for goodness. We seek to provide community and support rooted in the Islamic framework for Muslims at SLS to encourage their social, professional, intellectual, and spiritual/religious development. In addition, we facilitate opportunities for the larger SLS student body to explore the intersection of Muslim/Islam and the law.

This includes raising awareness around legal topics affecting Muslims such as Islamic law, discriminatory national security policies, human rights violations during the War on Terror, and religious freedom.

Stanford Law School Plaintiffs' Lawyers Association (PLA) endeavors to build something that has never existed on campus: a community of SLS students and alumni dedicated to contingency-fee based work on behalf of wronged individuals.

The PLA wil have two purposes:

First, the PLA will conduct on-campus programming to support student interest in the profession. The PLA will host prominent practitioners to educate students and answer questions about contemporary practice; faculty members to advise student on courses of study, clerkships, and broader developments in the field; and, student panels on summer experiences, future plans and recommendations for success. Ultimately, students interested in the profession will be able to turn to the PLA first for any resource related to the profession – information, community support, and guidance, etc. – throughout their time at SLS.

Lastly, the group seeks to build an active and robust alumni network of SLS plaintiffs' lawyers, so that students have a resource for contacting alumni and alumni have a resource to contact each other. Through this work, SLS students and alumni in the field can build and sustain invaluable connections for their professional practice.
